Astarte Lazo

Born and raised in the Philippines, Astarte moved to Alberta, Canada when she was 14 years old. During her time in the Philippines, she spent most of her time in her school journalism club throughout elementary and junior high. Specializing in Radio Broadcasting in the English category, her love for writing and reporting started there. When she started school in Canada, she wanted to continue to be involved in school despite being in a new environment, and that’s when she first encountered TV Broadcasting where her love for the industry grew even more. What was once just a hobby turned into something she’s deeply passionate about and is continuing to pursue today. Astarte is now in her second-year at NAIT in the Radio and Television program.

Astarte’s love for being in front of the camera doesn’t stop at TV Broadcasting. She also does some modelling and acting work on the side, where Astarte has worked with NAIT by doing multiple commercials and posing for the school and being featured on their official website. Astarte also enjoys performing in musical theatre and drama productions and has performed on stage throughout high school.

Astarte has honed her public speaking skills at the age of 5 when she started participating in declamation competitions, often against older kids. Her parents thought that it was only appropriate as she memorized her first poem “Flower In The Crannied Wall” at two-years-old.

Astarte spends her free time reading, painting, playing her many instruments and if not skating, volunteering at her figure skating club.

Astarte speaks English, Tagalog and Ilocano.
