The benefits of a good night sleep

By on April 22, 2026

Do you have trouble concentrating? Do you get sick a lot? Are you having trouble losing those last five pounds? Maybe you’re not getting enough sleep.

Adults should be getting at least seven hours sleep per night. If you can do that, you’ll see benefits such as:

  • Improved memory and concentration.
  • Improved stress management.
  • Keeps your immune system strong so you can keep from getting sick, as well as lowering your risk for conditions like diabetes and heart disease.
  • Allows your muscles time to heal so you can maintain peak performance
  • Gives you more energy to cook healthy meals so you can stay at your ideal weight.
  • Lowers the amount of ghrelin (the hormone that regulates hunger) in your blood, making you feel less hungry.

So how do I get more sleep? There are several things you can consider doing:

  • Stick to a sleep schedule! Going to sleep and waking up at the same time every night regulates your circadian rhythm.
  • Avoid big meals up to three hours before bed. This will stop you from being woken up with heartburn
  • Avoid drinking caffeinated beverages for up to four hours before bed.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol for up to two hours before bed. Alcohol can help you fall asleep, but there’s a good chance you’ll be woken up later in the night due to thirst or other reasons.
  • Try not to look at screens for up to 30 minutes before bed. The brightness of the screen can disrupt your circadian rhythm.

Hopefully, this blog will help you get that good night sleep that you deserve and make you feel better than ever.
