How I found my perfect gaming mouse pad

By Sam Macaraeg on October 9, 2026

Choosing a gaming mouse pad can be harder than it seems. There are many options, and even small differences in the surface can change how a mouse feels. After testing four different mouse pads, I found that choosing the right one is less about finding the “best” pad and more about figuring out what feels right for you.

The Four Pads

I tested the ZOWIE G-SR-SE, Kurosun Samurai, SteelSeries QcK Performance Speed, and SteelSeries QcK Performance Control. I chose these pads because they represent different options in the mouse pad market. The SteelSeries pads are easier to find in stores, while the Kurosun Samurai is a more artisan option. The G-SR-SE also gave me another smooth cloth surface to compare against as a popular cloth pad choice.

The surfaces themselves are noticeably different. The G-SR-SE uses a very smooth, tightly woven cloth surface. The Kurosun Samurai has a smooth, woven, almost knit-like surface, while the QcK Performance Speed uses a very smooth nylon knit. The QcK Performance Control has a coarser, microtextured surface designed to provide more control.

Testing Them in KovaaK’s

I used KovaaK’s tracking scenarios to test each pad and recorded my accuracy. My results were:

  • Kurosun Samurai — 42%
  • QcK Performance Speed — 39%
  • G-SR-SE — 35%
  • QcK Performance Control — 34%

These scores are not definitive proof of which pad is better, but they gave me a way to compare how I performed on each surface.

The Kurosun Samurai

The Kurosun Samurai had my highest score at 42%. Its smooth, woven surface felt fast while still giving me a little more control.

I really enjoyed using it, and it ended up being one of my favourite pads. The downside is availability, since it is harder to find than more mainstream options.

The QcK Performance Speed

The QcK Performance Speed scored 39% and quickly became another favourite. Its tightly woven nylon surface felt fast and smooth without feeling unpredictable.

It was easy to make quick movements, and I liked how consistent the surface felt during testing.

The G-SR-SE

The G-SR-SE scored 35%. Its tightly woven surface gave me a very smooth and controlled feeling.

While I liked the pad, I personally preferred the faster feeling of the QcK Speed and Samurai.

The QcK Performance Control

The QcK Performance Control scored 34%, making it my lowest score of the four.

Its coarse, microtextured surface gave me more stopping power, but I found the texture too rough. To me, it felt almost scratchy, which made it less comfortable during longer sessions.

The Takeaway

My biggest takeaway is that choosing a mouse pad should start with figuring out what you actually want from one. Surface texture, speed, control, price, and availability can all affect the decision. A pad that feels great to one person might not feel the same to someone else.

For me, the Kurosun Samurai and QcK Performance Speed were the clear winners for me. The Samurai gave me my highest tracking score, while the QcK Speed was very close behind.

That does not mean they will be the best for everyone. My results are based on my preferences and testing, but trying Different surfaces helped me figure out what I actually want from a mouse pad.
