Free music in Edmonton springs into action

By Genevieve Asselin on April 22, 2026

You know as well as the next student that free activities make our worlds go ’round. The Edmonton Music & Speech Art Festival understands this, too. This Spring, their 118th annual festival is taking place around the city from April 20 until May 1.

Every. Single. Show. Is. Free.

The Spring semester routinely has NAIT students looking for ways to enjoy time outside of class without breaking the bank.

No cost to attend, the festival has over a century of art and community built into it. Months of practice go into this two-week event. Performers’ ages range from five to 75 years old.

There’s no age limit to having fun and making art!

A handful of artists who play at this festival will be picked to represent Edmonton at the Provincial Music Festival – some will even win scholarships with their talent.

It costs nothing to start the Spring semester by watching a student of art’s work come to life!

There are free performances scheduled all over the city in these locations:

  • King’s University (9125 50 Street NW)
  • McDougall Church (10025 101 Street NW)
  • Old Strathcona Performing Arts Centre (8426 Gateway Boulevard NW)
  • Archbishop Macdonald Catholic High School (14219 109 Avenue NW)

No matter your schedule, there’s a show for you. Sessions generally start at 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. respectively.

Attendees are encouraged to check out a show they know nothing about; this is a chance to adventure out into art that comes from your neighbours. What a great way to be young & exciting without spending any money!

Choirs, orchestras and musical theatre are examples of the many different styles showcased at the Edmonton Music & Speech Arts Festival.

More information is available in the 2026 festival programme.
