Exploring Edmonton with Yegventures: Local creator shares his passion for the city

By Ashaan Jiwani on October 21, 2025

For more than a decade, Yegventures has been giving Edmontonians a closer look at their own city, from hidden gems and local eats to festivals and infrastructure projects. The creator behind the page, Lincoln Ho, has built a reputation for showing what makes Edmonton unique through community-focused storytelling and travel coverage.

I spoke with the creator of Yegventures about how it all began, how the city’s social scene has evolved, and what’s next for the long-running local platform.

Q: What first inspired you to start Yegventures, and what was your goal when you began?

A: I started Yegventures as a kind of community channel, almost like a digital magazine. It was about featuring community groups and things to do around the city, kind of like what you’d find on the old Shaw channel.

Q: How has Yegventures evolved over the years?

A: It’s evolved a lot since then. Now it’s my lifestyle. I get paid to feature things around the city, places to eat and even destinations you can fly to from Edmonton.

Q: What keeps you motivated after more than a decade?

A: New things keep me excited. I’ve covered a lot of the same festivals and events for years, so when something new happens, it’s fresh for me and for viewers, too.

Q: How do you decide what’s worth featuring?

A: When I decide what to feature, I look for what’s newsworthy, what’s new, what’s got impact or human interest. I try to stay away from partisan issues, but city politics are fair game.

Q: What kinds of stories do you love covering most?

A: Tourism-related content is my favourite. I love showing off my city and helping people see there’s always something to do. I’m drawn to things like urban design, architecture and transportation how a city runs.

Q: What’s one thing people might not realize about Edmonton’s audience or culture?

A: A lot of people don’t realize how diverse Edmonton’s audience is. I have younger followers on YouTube Gen Z and even Gen Alpha, while Instagram leans older. Each group reacts differently to content.

Q: Do you have a favourite hidden gem?
A:
I think Métis Crossing is a great hidden gem. It’s outside the city near Smoky Lake, but it’s one of the few places Explore Edmonton promotes that isn’t within city limits.

Q: What advice would you give to someone who wants to explore more of their own city?

A: If you want to explore your city more, just go out and do it. Pick a random direction and see where it takes you. There are two versions of every city, one you experience by car and one you experience without it.
