Edmonton being treated to larger than life art exhibition

By Admin User on April 7, 2021

It’s a bird? It’s a plane? It’s a….giant humanoid?

Since mid-March, some Edmontonians may have noticed the nearly 40-foot illuminated humanoids appearing throughout the city’s downtown core. No fear, these are not the humanistic robots bearing messages for Earth’s leaders like in The Day the Earth Stood Still movie. In fact, these colossal titans are part of a friendly, free and socially distanced art installation happening right now in our city. The art exhibit is sponsored by Edmonton’s Downtown Spark. It features Australian artist Amanda Parer and her glowing spectacle titled, Fantastic Plant. The visual exhibition takes inspiration from the 1973 Czech/French stop-motion film of the same name.

The six glowing giants have been appearing around the globe over the past two years and have recently graced us with their presence. Downtown Spark’s mission is to ignite Edmonton’s city core with safe, entertaining and socially distant experiences for locals to enjoy. The outdoor exhibition is open to all interpretations. Comfort, insignificance or the idea of friendly interplanetary entities watching us are just a few feelings you might experience. It also happens a good opportunity for some Instagram-worthy selfies.

The radiant presentation runs until April 12th. The locations and viewing times of each gleaming goliath can be found on Explore Edmonton. If you have already been downtown recently and looking ahead to your next art exhibit. Tickets for Imagine Van Gogh’s Immersive Exhibition on sale now.
