OOKs men’s squad aims for strong start in season opener

After weeks of preparation, the NAIT Ooks men’s hockey team is ready to make a statement as they open their home season Saturday night against long-time Concordia Thunder in a highly anticipated ACAC matchup. The game marks the Ooks’ first chance to make a strong impression on the 2025-2026 season after last year’s first-round exit.
“It’s largely the same team, which to me does a lot for the culture. These guys come in with a chip on their shoulder about how last year ended, but they’re also excited about being back together and around each other again. Guys are a lot more comfortable and confident this year on this ice coming into their second year on the team,” said Scott Fellnermayr, head coach of the Ooks men’s squad.
Fans can expect a fast-paced and physical game as the Ooks renew their rivalry with the Thunder on home ice.
“We’re physical, we play anyway you want to play, faster-paced team this year. We also have a really good power play that was shown last year. We’ve had some really good rivalries built, and the rest of the league is getting good, so it’s pretty high-end hockey,” said Fellnermayr.
The puck drops at 6 p.m. on Saturday at the NAIT Arena. Fans can find full schedules, player bios, and more on the NAIT Ooks website.
