NAIT welcomes award-winning chef for this year’s Chef in Residence program

2025 Canadian Culinary Champion and NAIT alumnus Alex Kim is at NAIT for the Chef in Residence program. Kim will be at NAIT, instructing culinary arts students from March 23 to 27, 2026.

“I’m extremely honoured to be back in the kitchen. I think it’s also a full-circle, dreams-come-true moment,” said Chef Alex Kim.

“When I was here, I learned so much from Chef Susur Lee when he was here as a chef in residence. So, coming back here, I’m, you know, super excited to share my passion with the students.”

Kim is known for his seafood, with his specialty being an edible oyster tartlet and sablefish terrine with scallops.

“I spent lots of time thinking about my culinary heritage. And there’s my technique that I acquired in the last 16 years. And also, more importantly, the fresh ingredients that I’m starting with in BC,” said Kim.

Kim works at Vancouver’s award-winning restaurant Five Sails as the culinary director. He will be hosting several meals at Ernest’s, which are open to the public.
