NAIT students prepare hundreds of Thanksgiving meals for Edmonton residents in need

NAIT Culinary students really are giving this Thanksgiving by preparing enough turkey dinners to feed up to 700 people at the Boyle Street Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday.
The students are preparing 60 turkeys, 110 loaves of bread and 260 pounds of vegetables for the charity event, helping to feed the less fortunate in Edmonton this weekend.
“The need has slowly increased over time. We’re seeing costs for everything increase, so it’s really hard for people to get by right now,” said Karen Gill, Communications Manager, Boyle Street Community Services.
This year marks the 24th year that NAIT students have volunteered their time and cooking skills to help people in need. The event is set to be one of the largest in Boyle Street Community Services’ history.
“We were able to surpass our fundraising goal of $15,000,” Gill said. “We tried to make it extra special, so not only are they getting a full Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings, but we also have an airbrush artist coming.”
The final meals will be warmed up in NAIT’s kitchens and picked up by Boyle Street Community Services on Sunday, October 11 at 9 a.m.
