Some students and staff at NAIT say the Alberta teachers strike is having an effect on them.
“As an instructor, I’ve got some students here at NAIT that have young kids that are at home,” says television instructor, Ruth Wiart. “So we’re having to do some accommodations for them to make sure that they don’t fall behind in their class material.”
On Oct. 6, 2025 the Alberta Teachers’ Association went on strike. That same day all classes across Alberta were cancelled until further notice.
The NAIT Students’ Association (NAITSA) says its working with students who have school-aged children. They are encouraging them to reach out to NAITSA and their instructors.
“When you log into the Student Wellness Plan there’s also a counselling services provided there for students, so that’s one key resource for our students.”
The strike has affected 750,000 students across 2,500 schools in Alberta. The Alberta Teachers’ Association and the province started bargaining again on Tuesday.
