When Ricketts was a teenager, Sean Fleming was his coach at the Prairies National Training Centre. Fleming says, “When [they] first saw him as a young lad he was a great potential, always a great athlete, he’s got great pace.” However, things weren’t always easy and Fleming says they had to do some “attitude adjustment in terms of his training habits, in terms of his commitment to what he should be doing.”

Fleming goes on to say that coaches and athletes sometime have tense moments but Ricketts “was absolutely tremendous in how he did it and in how he improved in such a short time.”

Before Ricketts was signed to the Toronto FC he played with Boluspor Kulübü of Turkey’s TFF First League. He also has played for the Canadian National Team, making his first appearance in 2011 and has played for Canada at the 2011, 2013 and 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup tournaments. He has scored 12 goals for the Canadian National Team.
