The Oilers continue to fuel panic within Edmonton

By Jordan McCombe on November 26, 2025

The Oilers have the same odds to win the Stanley Cup as the Chicago Blackhawks. According to moneypuck.com predictions, a team in the midst of a rebuild, and most recently the 3rd overall pick, somehow has the same odds as a team that has two of the top five players in the world.

It is clear that there is one problem with the Edmonton Oilers right now, and it centers around their goalie tandem. In just the starts that they have had this season. Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard have allowed 93 goals in 25 games. The worst in the entire NHL by seven goals.

Here are the stats for each goalie:

Calvin Pickard

  • .847%
  • This is the worst save percentage out of all active NHL goalies, putting him 53rd
  • 4.04 GAA

Stuart Skinner

  • .878%
  • 45th in the entire league for NHL goalies
  • 3.18 GAA

Just last night the Oilers got decimated by a thriving young star studded Dallas team in the Dallas Stars. They put up eight goals against the Oilers, four of which came in the first period. After Stuart Skinner was relieved of his duty out front, Pickard would allow four more goals in the remaining two periods, leading to an eight-to-three loss.

Afterward, many Oilers players, including Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, were interviewed and were asked about the problems in net. They responded with remarks about how their team didn’t play well enough in front of them. Going so far as to say that the goaltending is based on how the team plays in front of them.

Regardless, the Oilers are now 10-10-4 to start the season, and many people are even putting them out of the race for the playoffs, let alone the Stanley Cup.
