The Offspring and Simple Plan: time travel to the 2000s

By Admin User on November 29, 2022

The Offspring and their opener, Simple Plan, are bringing a sense of nostalgia to Canadian cities like Edmonton.

The Offspring have returned to Edmonton for the first time since 2019 for their tenth studio album tour, Let the Bad Times Roll. The tour features the Canadian pop-punk group from Montreal, Simple Plan, who have not returned since 2017. Both bands had Rogers Place rumbling on Monday night.

Their tour, Let the Bad Times Roll, had been rescheduled from earlier this year. Venues were changed from the Edmonton Shaw Conference Centre to Rogers Place to accommodate the higher ticket demand. The result was a filled lower bowl with floor access as well.

The concert starts with Simple Plan getting the crowd excited and ready for The Offspring. They do this extremely well through their stage presence and the performance itself. The band sounds just like they did in 2002, making it all the better to experience it live. There was a portion of the turnout that only purchased tickets for the chance to see this amazing opener. However, the majority remained for the tour’s headliners.

The Offspring begin their set with Come Out and Play, the record-breaking single that shot the band to its stardom. With the long-running bandmates like Dexter Holland, the lead singer, and Noodles, the lead guitarist, looking almost identical to their original image. The crowd acknowledges these nods to the past, making it all the more special and electric.

Hit after hit is playing throughout, leaving some of the most iconic till last, like You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid. This band knows how to keep and interact with a crowd. Through their breaks between songs, they are still providing entertainment.

“We’ve been vibing all night, and it really does mean the world to us! Thank you, Edmonton!” said Noodles, the lead guitarist.

Only four more shows remain to start tonight in Calgary and end in Victoria, B.C., on Nov. 27. Tickets remain on sale through their website and Ticketmaster. Whether it be tonight in Calgary or sometime in the future, The Offspring and Simple Plan should be on your must-see list.
