By Sophia Porquez on December 10, 2025

Winter is coming around the corner, and the school year is almost ending. Many students are planning the fun activities that they’re doing with their friends and family during the holidays. Most students would like to stay home and cozy in front of a fire, but some might want an adventure.

Sledding down a giant hill is pretty fun, but did you know that there is a popular hill where lots of people sled? It’s Queen Elizabeth Park. Located near Waterdale Bridge, you have access to multiple river valley trails, and beautiful views. The park started to gain its popularity for sledding and winter activities during the 1950’s.

During winter in the park, the hills transform into a winter wonderland for people who really likes sledding. It has several hills which offers different slopes that is suitable for all skill level. If you need a break from sledding, come over to the fire pits, get yourself a cup of hot chocolate, and enjoy the view. If you want to have a walk instead, go walk on the trails and check out some artwork along the way. Also, if you have children, bring them to the playground.

With this park opening every day and open for everyone, be mindful of the weather and temperature when sledding. There are phone numbers if you need shelter during the cold winter season:

  • Al Rashid Mosque – (780-707-6199)
  • The Salvation Army Downtown – (780-428-4405)
