“What’s one thing every NAIT student should know?” There are a lot of things that you should know, but I will just tell you one thing that I believe is very important.
Your instructors want you to succeed, but they won’t chase you.
NAIT is very different from high school in that it expects you to take responsibility for your own learning. Instructors are very experienced in their own field and care about helping students, but they expect you to meet them in the middle.
If you fall behind, miss an exponential number of classes, or don’t understand something, it’s up to you to catch up. Especially if you’re in a program that is very hands-on or progresses fast. Asking questions and communicating with your instructors is very important. Navigating and knowing how to use teams will help you a lot.
Another crucial thing you must understand is that your effort is always noticed. Students who show they are dedicated to their work by participating, staying engaged, and putting in consistent work as much as possible often receive more guidance and support. This can eventually lead to networking, references, or job connections after graduating.
You need strong time management skills.
Unlike high school, you may have fewer classes and hours in those classes, but that means more independent study is needed (depending on the course). Staying organized and not putting off assignments as they come will prevent unnecessary worry.
In the end, your success at NAIT comes from you treating your education like a job: show up ready, stay disciplined, and take responsibility for your learning. If you do that, you’ll set yourself up for both your academic success and your future career.
