Networking starts in the classroom

By on December 11, 2024

NAIT is known for many things. Hands on learning, industry standard curriculums and connections in industry just to name a few. Something they don’t advertise is the connections you make in class. The smaller class sizes allow you, maybe even forces you to interact with everyone in your class. For a NAIT student to build these connections and friendships early, it can mean all the difference when it comes to success in their field post graduation.

Why is it important to make these connections?

Once graduated, the workforce is an incredibly competitive place. While every course and field have their own challenges, what is the point of continuing your education if you can’t find a job afterwards? Making connections with your classmates could open doors that you weren’t even aware about. You never know who’s going to go on and make it big, so having that network pre-established could give you an edge later down the line. NAIT does an excellent job giving you contact and resources with current people in industry. But as the next wave enters the workforce, it’s never a bad thing to have a foot in the door with those entering around you.

 My own experience.

As a first semester student I wasn’t sure what to expect coming into my course, which is Radio and Television. I went from working full time for the past five years to a full-time course. I came into this course with no plans. As my first semester wraps up, I now have plans to start my own podcast with a classmate. I have also done some broadcasting for the NAIT Ooks because of my classmates’ referrals. These projects are going to look great on my portfolio and they wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for making connections with my classmates.
