NAIT Men’s Ooks volleyball rebuilds after championship season

By Dylan Weinert on November 19, 2024

The men’s volleyball team is off to a decent start after winning the CCAA championship last year. Currently the team sits at a respectable 3-3 record to kick off the season.

It looks like this season will be more of a rebuild for the Ooks as they struggle to find their identity as a team. They are still trying to find their lane after losing five of their seniors and with the addition of 10 new rookies to the roster.

Focusing on their next three games, the team has an uphill battle as they prepare to face Ambrose, Olds and Red Deer. The Ooks have been labeled as underdogs going into their match up against league favourites, the Red Deer Kings.

Coaching staff remains the same as Head Coach, Phil Dixon, leads the team through their title defense as they build upon their success from last season.

The team is optimistic about their chances and players are confident they will find their groove as a team moving forward. Libero, Koda Dunfield, says “it’s been a rocky start finding our groove after the SAIT game. We found our rhythm with the win and are feeling good about the remainder of our season.”

NAIT Men’s volleyball has been known to be a rowdy team in past years but the players are taking a different approach as they work through their games. They’ve been known to start the opening set a bit slow but settling in to the game and finding a way to win.
