Making the most of NAITSA fees
By Rebekah Hinman on November 20, 2025
Students at NAIT have access to a variety of resources, one such resource is the NAIT Students’ Association or NAITSA. Every student at NAIT has paid a NAITSA fee of $459. So what does this fee cover?
- Universal Transit Pass: More commonly called the U-Pass, this resource allows students to use transportation services from Edmonton, St. Albert, Strathcona County, Fort Saskatchewan, Spruce Grove, Leduc and Beaumont.
- Student benefit plans: NAITSA provides a health and dental student benefits plan to more than 8,500 students. This benefit plan is automatically put into place.
- Membership: The NAITSA membership provides access to a large variety of activities, discounts, support services and more.
How can students make the most of their NAITSA fees? The first thing students should do is make sure their U-Pass is activated. Even if a student doesn’t use the bus regularly, it’s better to have the pass activated than not. This can be done by logging into the NAIT website and going to the OneCard tab.
It’s also important to know that students have the option to opt out of the Student Benefit Plans. If a student already has a plan, they can go to the NAITSA website and fill out a form. If the student is approved, they will save $254 per school year! The deadline to opt out of the winter term student benefit plan is Jan. 30, 2026.
Another way to make the most out of the NAITSA fees is to attend the events that NAITSA hosts. It’s easy to find those events on the Ooks Life website. New events are constantly being added, so check regularly.
My last tip is to use the discounts on tickets and stores that NAITSA provides. The website has a full list of available discounts. Some of the most notable discounts are $12 Cineplex movie tickets, 20 per cent off most things at the Kingsway Shoppers Drug Mart and 60 per cent off a monthly Adobe subscription.
In practice, the best way to not only make use of your fees but to have a fun and involved school year is to keep up with announcements, websites and apps. There are so many other things that NAITSA offers, and the best way to find what’s relevant to you is to check it out. What are you waiting for? Make the most of your NAITSA fees now!
