International students at NAIT are permitted to work during the holidays

By Alexandra Huber on December 10, 2025

The holidays can be a difficult time for lots of students. Especially for those who can’t go home once classes are over. Many international students choose not to return home for winter break. And with the amount of events slowing down, students may be looking for something to keep them busy.

International students at NAIT have the opportunity to work over the upcoming scheduled break. Scheduled breaks are pauses in the academic calendar when there are no classes. This includes winter break, reading break and spring/summer break.

The winter break is from Dec. 17 2025 to Jan. 7 2026. In that time, international students are able to work on campus or off campus. There is no limit on the number of hours for students working on campus. If they’re working off campus, they can work up to 24 hours a week. However, some students may be allowed to exceed that during scheduled breaks.

However, there are certain requirements students must have before they can work. To be eligible to work during scheduled breaks, international students must:

  • Be enrolled full-time during every Fall and Winter term.
  • Have a valid permit that lists a condition saying they’re allowed to work on-campus and off-campus.
  • Be enrolled in full-time studies.
  • Have started your studies already.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number.

For more information, visit NAIT’s International and Intercultural Community Centre. It’s located in the W building, and is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Information can be found on their website.
