Free things to do over the Winter Break
By Lainey Johnson on December 5, 2025
Congrats! You are done with your final assessments. You should treat yourself over the holidays with some fun activities now that Semester One at NAIT is officially done.
All the activities listed on this blog are free, with the exception of a few pieces of equipment you may need for some.
- Skating
It’s getting colder, and the ice is freezing. Now you can go skating once the ice is safe. There are lots of rinks around the city that are expected to be opening soon. Some good free rinks in Edmonton include:
- Victoria Park Oval
- Lynwood Community Ice Rink
- Meadows Rec Centre Rink
- Alberta Legislature Ice Rink
- Edmonton City Hall Water Fountain
- Terwillegar Dog Park
Whether you’re a dog owner or not a dog owner, this is a great place to take a walk outdoors in a fun and dog-filled environment. It has a big field for dogs to roam free and beautiful trails surrounding it.
- Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market
This Farmers’ Market has been famous in Edmonton for a while now. If you haven’t visited it, it is definitely worth checking it out. There is lots of parking nearby, and it is free to get in. It is open on Saturdays and Sundays and is filled with vendors like:
- Fresh produce
- Baked goods
- Crafts from local artists
- Home Decor
These are just three of the many free activities Edmonton has to offer for NAIT students and their families for this Christmas break.
