Common problems at the Common Market

By Jordan Gyman on November 26, 2025

There are some common problems at the Common Market, such as the lack of frequency of certain favourites of students at NAIT. One student is very unhappy with the infrequency of the pizza grilled cheese.

“I haven’t seen the pizza grilled cheese in quite a while, how is this a rotation?” an anonymous student said, when asked for their opinion on the matter.

Another source of discontent within the student body is the debate over the portion sizes in contrast to their pricing. An example of this was the Popcorn Chicken with Shaker Fries Box. It included your choice of garlic, masala, barbecue, and churro for seasoning options. This was a cause for debate because the portions are similar to the Small Popcorn Chicken, as it is priced similarly to their larger meals.

Additionally, when you purchase a combo meal, only specific drinks are available for you to choose from. Specifically, there is only soda to choose from, as Vitamin Water is not part of the selection, there are no healthy options.

The self-serve coffee and tea station leaves few options regarding different brews or tea types. It is also often left sitting and will burn to the bottom of the pot, making it less than satisfactory.

Essentially, there are a few disagreements on how the Common Market is run. With the lack of options for coffee in comparison to Starbucks, the pricing and the portions and the lack of rotation, there is a lot that could be improved upon.
