A market hidden in plain sight

My personal favourite unspoken campus secret is the Artisanal Food Market and it could be your favourite too! The Artisanal Food Market may be located right next to the popular Common Market, but we don’t hear it talked about as much as the other food stops on campus. Not a lot of people know you can buy freshly prepared deli items, pastries and other products from our very own culinary students.
My dad was a culinary student just a couple years ago and he would bring home the best liver pate I have ever had. Everything we had from the market was truly delicious. You can tell the culinary students really care about what they do, the love and time spent on their food seeps through into the final products.
They have all sorts of delicacies; some popular items include:
- Ice cream and sorbet
- Fresh meat products
- Desserts
- Ready to go meals
- Fresh baked bread
Think of it like NAIT‘s exclusive food. Sure, you can try all sorts of things on campus, but these are made by students, can be stored at home in the fridge and are shockingly affordable. It’s like grocery shopping on campus, except I was pleasantly shocked that a roll cake only cost five dollars at the market. Some days the market is so full they have a wait time, because it’s just that good. It’s surprising how little we hear of it, but clearly those who know it love it. it’s worth the wait times. So, we are happy to share this hidden treasure with you.
