October is set to be a month for fans of Japanese role-playing games. We go over the five games to look out for.
1) Digimon Story: Time Stranger

On Oct. 3, a Digimon turn-based game that follows a story that unravels the mystery of the world’s collapse is released. It has over 400 Digimon, some from anime and others new for the games. This game will have an English dub for the first time for a Digimon game since 2007. If you want to experience the game firsthand, a demo is available now that allows you to play the beginning of the game on all current hardware.
2) Pokémon Legends: Z-A

A new Pokémon Legends game is coming Oct. 16. It plays with a more active combat system that gives the long-running series a breath of fresh air, making players think on the spot. This is set in Lumiose City, which gives the game a more urban environment. The game is going to be on both the Switch and Switch 2.
3) Fantasy Maiden Wars

On Oct. 20, a fan game gets a full official release. This game is a cross of the Super Robot Wars games, using Touhou characters in it, so if you like a turn-based tactics game, this would be a must. The game has over 70 playable characters, over 100 stages, and over 200 songs. This game has a demo on the PC, and it will also be released in full for the Switch on Oct. 20.
4) Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake

Dragon Quest is one of the first JRPGs to be released on consoles back in the 80’s, when most RPGs in general were PC games. Last year, Dragon Quest III HD-2D was released to a positive reception. If you want to play where it began, but with much better quality of life features and new content. It comes out near the end of the month on Oct.30 for all current hardware.
5) Tales of Xillia Remastered

At the beginning of the year, it was the 30th anniversary of the Tales series, and Bandai Namco announced the Tales Remaster Project to make all their games playable for modern hardware. This is the 2nd game in the project, the original game was released only on the PS3 in 2013. It will come with over 40 DLC included. This game comes out on Oct. 31 for all current hardware.
