Students vote to keep U-Pass at NAIT for another three years

By on March 7, 2025

An overwhelming amount of students voted to reinstate the U-Pass for another three years at NAIT.

Voting for the U-Pass Referendum ended February 13. Over 40 per cent of students voiced their opinions and participated in the vote.

“If it wasn’t as many students I wouldn’t feel confident that the voice of the student body was actually represented appropriately, but because it was almost half of the student body I am very satisfied,” said Jenna Luczak, president of NAITSA.

This was the largest voting turnout NAITSA has ever seen, with nearly seven thousand students casting their vote.

“It sets the precedent that, especially with this turnout, students rely on affordable transit and they rely on programs like the U-Pass,” said Luczak.

The majority of NAIT students pay for the U-Pass.

Students already a part of a transit program or living 100 kilometres from NAIT are exempt from the U-Pass fee.
