New farmers market on wheels brings fresh products to Edmonton

A new farmers market on wheels is touring around Edmonton offering fresh produce and baking goods to Edmonton at a reduced rate.
The CD Fresh Express is a family-run business focused on touring areas known as food deserts around Edmonton. Food deserts are areas that have limited accessibility to fresh food at a decent price. The bus stops for a few hours at each location, and customers can shop and explore what the bus has to offer.
The owner of the bus explained how he came up with the idea of a mobile farmers market.
“Last Christmas I caught a video on YouTube showing them pulling this off in the states, and I figured well, if they can do it in the states why can’t I do it here,” says Andrew Lineker.
Lineker is looking to expand his business to other areas of the city, as well as taking it on the road to Central Alberta.
“I’m already in the process of checking out a couple more buses to get on the road just because the influx of the customer and volume is that to merit more buses on the road.”
The bus works with 35 Alberta farmers to bring fresh, local produce on the bus. When items are not in season, the Fresh Express will bring in products from other regions, but they try to push the local aspect as much as they can.
