Nest continuing GST break

The Nest Eatery will be continuing the GST holiday, NAIT’s Students’ Association (NAITSA) announced February 10. Students can expect this break to last until The Nest’s seasonal closure in June.

“We know that things are already really tough for students,” said Jason Roth, External Relations Director for NAITSA. 

With the federal GST holiday ending on February 15, and 25% tariffs expected as early as next week, it’s no secret food is about to get pricier.

“At The Nest, some of the things that we use that are imported from the United States – things like lettuce, some other fruits and vegetables – [and] if those tariffs come in […] the cost of these things are probably going to go up.”

NAITSA is looking at altering their supply chains to keep costs down for students while continuing to host resources like their emergency food centre.

While The Nest is overseen by NAITSA, NAIT runs most food options on campus. NAIT has not announced plans to follow NAITSA with any of their services.
