NAITSA serves up free lunches for students to combat rising food insecurity

By Kael Loubardias on March 2, 2026

NAITSA set up a Food Security Pop-Up on NAIT’s campus on Feb. 23. Organizers handed out snacks, drinks and wraps to ensure that no NAIT student goes to class hungry, supporting them during unexpected hardships.

“Everything is so expensive right now,” said Jessie B., organizer for the event. “We recognize that as being a student, we’re just making sure that everyone gets a little bit of food throughout their day.”

At the event, people were able to donate food to NAITSA’s Emergency Centre.

“It’s nice to have brightness during the day and it helps them get through their studies because food is fuel, so we recognize that times are pretty tough.”

The NAITSA Food Centre provides students in need with one hamper per month. Since the summer of 2015, it has distributed over 4,000 hampers to students. Every hamper aims to provide six days’ worth of non-perishable food.
