In photos: Alberta Legislature commemorates Louis Riel

The Legislative Assembly of Alberta recognized Métis leader Louis Riel on Sunday morning, honouring his legacy and impact on the Métis people of Canada. Riel founded the province of Manitoba, running two Métis governments, before he was executed for high treason in 1885. The ceremony was a part of Métis Week, an annual celebration of the Métis peoples and the legacy of Riel.
