Edmonton charity sells discounted items to help build homes

Habitat for Humanity ReStore is a local charity that sells new and gently used building supplies. The items they sell are donated by companies and Edmontonians.
Some of the items they accept include:
- appliances
- cabinets
- windows
- doors
- flooring
- tools
“Selling in the store and taking donations is one piece. The other is that we’re keeping things out of the landfill. We’re taking items that another retail place has not found a way to sell and we are finding that buyer that is not typical by offering them a product at a lot less cost,” says Chris Gibson, Director of ReStore Operations.
All the profits they receive from donations or through the store go towards helping to fund Habitat for Humanity.
“There’s many places throughout that you can donate. Cash that would go to helping families into homes or you can connect to our ReStore donation department where we can schedule a pickup; where we can come and pick up an item from your house and bring it back into the store.”
You can also donate your items in person to any of their four locations in Edmonton:
- ReStore North – 8210 Yellowhead Trail NW
- ReStore South – 4004-99 Street
- ReStore West – 16811-106 Avenue NW
- ReStore East – 6909-76 Avenue NW
ReStores are always looking for volunteers. By volunteering at ReStores, you can help build homes for local families, keep materials out of landfills and provide affordable materials for Edmontonians to improve their homes.
For more information on the different volunteer opportunities they have, you can visit their website or sign up for a volunteering position.
