Edmonton cafe offers a vegan twist on the traditional Thanksgiving

Edmonton’s own Table Top Cafe has a new spin on Canada’s favourite excuse to eat pumpkin pie. Turkeys, roast ham and cornucopias are seasonal treats that are commonplace on Canadian tables at Thanksgiving, but Table Top is doing things a little differently with a vegan Thanksgiving menu.
Table Top is a board game cafe in downtown Edmonton, where coffee-lovers and board game enthusiasts are welcome to hang out and play some games. Their usual menu has homemade beverages and desserts.
Table Top is serving a four-course vegan Thanksgiving dinner Sunday. This will be the first time they’re dabbling in a full vegan menu. The cafe’s own Cody Lord is a vegan and is extremely excited to see this event come to light.
“Thanksgiving is a very important tradition in Canada,” said Lord. “You get together, you eat, you bond, you catch up. To not be able to eat animal bi-products always put a barrier between that experience and me.”
The cafe will serve vegan roast, mashed potatoes and soup. Vegan pumpkin pie and homemade cookies will be available for dessert.
Lord said that the Cafe is expecting upwards of 100 guests this Sunday evening.
“We’ve had over 80 people respond to the event on Facebook and have like 100 more that are interested,” he said. “I’m pretty pumped about the turnout.”
Tickets for the event are available at Eventbrite.
