Fort Edmonton Park is transforming from a historical attraction to a Halloween hotspot. The DARK haunted scare experience opened to the public on Thursday.
“There’s going to be a lot for people to take in this year, as you first walk in through the train station, you’re going to be taken aback right off the bat. There are some really great stuff, great lighting and great effects,” said makeup designer, Gaylynne Fell.
Staff at Fort Edmonton Park decided to shake things up from last year’s event creating two new haunted houses. Each haunt takes 12 minutes to walk through. Visitors will also experience scare zones and roving entertainment around the park.
“This year’s DARK the makeup has been elevated we have about 100 actors and we have prosthetics on about 85 per cent of them,” said Fell.
To differentiate between guests and the hundreds of actors, guests can’t wear costumes.
The event also features DARK Circle, a licensed food and beverage centre with a live DJ.
DARK is for older teens and adults, due to its scary nature. Tickets are $40 online and $50 at door. DARK at Fort Edmonton Park runs until Nov. 1.
