Tahli Gill and Dean Hewitt are here in Edmonton practicing for upcoming curling events this season. The duo hails from Australia and hope their dedication to the sport will equal success in the coming months.
“Edmonton just kind of has everything that we need. We’ve got a good facility at Saville, there’s a gym really close,” said Tahli Gill, a professional curler from Australia.
The couple are currently sponsored by the Australian Curling Federation. Not only are they practicing on the ice, but they’re also in the gym training and watching films to study strategy almost every single day.
“We’re basically playing an event every couple weeks and we’ve got the event coming up in Beaumont in a couple weeks time. We’re really looking forward to having a good event there where we’re kind of building towards the end of the year before we head home for Christmas,” said Dean Hewitt, a professional curler from Australia.
The events that the duo are curling in 2023/24 include:
- Alberta Curling Series Mixed Doubles – Beaumont, Alta.
- Mixed Doubles Super Series – Winnipeg, Man.
- Mixed Doubles Super Series – Oakville, Ont.
- Qualico Mixed Doubles Classic – Banff, Alta.
- North Bay Mixed Doubles – North Bay, Ont.
- SaskTour Mixed Doubles Series – Martensville, Sask.
- World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship – Ostersund, Sweden
Their first event will take place from Nov. 24-26 in Beaumont, Alberta.
