Alberta’s Education Minister is looking for students for youth council

By Admin User on March 9, 2017

Alberta’s Education Minister is going back to school to help shape the future of Alberta’s education system. A new initiative was announced last week called the Minister’s Youth Council. The council will be made up of 32 junior and senior high school students of diverse backgrounds and perspectives. The Education Minister is looking for students who are looking to make a difference in their schools. The council will meet three times during the school year to discuss the education system with Minister David Eggen.

I certainly intend on taking student input and working with it in a meaningful way. I know as a teacher for 20 years that the secret thing about teachers and students is that the teachers can learn just as much working with the students as the other way around.

The initiative was created to help give young people a voice in their education. Though the council is supposed to discuss education, Minister Eggen, is open to hearing any ideas that come his way.

I am not going to provide limitations just opportunities for students on the minister’s advisory council.

Any and all students in junior and senior high school are encouraged to apply. Students do not have to be a member of their school’s government to apply.  The first meeting will take place in the fall of 2017 and applications for the council are open until May 5.
